Polo is among the most fascinating but also most demanding sports that you can devote yourself to. Shooting a 3 ½ inch diameter ball riding with the stick, going side to side on the saddle, front and rear, while being hard-pressed by other players with their ponies, requires extraordinary skills, team spirit, and self-control.

At THAI POLO CLUB we aim to provide first-class training to prepare you for your ultimate polo challenge. Our polo lessons are thought for players with or without previous experience, men or ladies, and of course for all ages. We will tailor your training to suit your requirements and skill levels.

YOUR POLO DAY AT THAI POLO CLUB

After an initial safety briefing, a typical day starts with tuition in the morning led by one of our professional polo coaches. With a combination of stick and balling with the ponies, learning schooling techniques or developing hitting skills with foot mallets or on the wooden horse you will be taught everything about the mechanics of hitting the ball while absorbing the finer points of the game in theory sessions. If you had previous exposure to horses, or even joined in other equestrian sports, you may move quickly into the game after our lessons with the mallet and the rules. If you have not had much equestrian experience in your life, we feel that every new polo enthusiast should also understand the basics, namely how to tack up a polo pony, how to tie a tail, or how to do a bandage. Eventually you will have the opportunity to put all your new found skills into practice during chukkas with other players who are also just getting started in the sport or later on with more experienced local players, who often like to come and join. At the end of your polo day at THAI POLO CLUB it is time to wind down over a drink at our Chukka-Bar and look forward for dinner.

REGE LUDWIG CLINICS
As a premium service THAI POLO CLUB is proud to offer you special training opportunities by one of the most respected polo trainers worldwide: Mr. Rege Ludwig.

Mr. Ludwig, a native Pennsylvanian who has a bachelor of science degree from the University of Arizona, has a many-faceted career in polo. He is an international polo instructor who has coached high goal polo players such as Memo and Carlos Gracida, Clemente and Julio Zavaleta, Sebastian Merlos, Julio Arellano, and Andre Weiss.

Rege's formal teaching career began in 1983 when he was contacted by the United States Polo Training Foundation to conduct the Virginia Polo Clinic at the University of Virginia. This has been an annual event ever since and, over the years, the data has shown that 35% of the students of the Virginia Polo Clinic become active polo playing members of the U.S.P.A.

Rege coached the 26-goal Isla Carroll Team (Memo and Carlos Gracida, John Goodman) to victory in the 1999 Gold Cup Tournament in West Palm Beach, Florida.  In August, 1998 he was the coach of the U.S. Team which competed in the F.I.P. World Championship Tournament in Santa Barbara, California. Rege Ludwig's polo clinics offer a great introduction to polo as well as a refresher course for experienced players.

For many years, Rege has operated primarily out of the Eldorado Polo Club located near Palm Springs, California and run the annual Virginia Polo Clinic during the month of June. It is exciting to know that Rege's future training credits will include his work with THAI POLO CLUB.
